Card grading guidelines

Inspect both faces, edges and corners under good light, outside the sleeve. Consider all wear together; a clean front does not cancel damage on the back. Near mint does not promise a flawless or professionally graded card.

Near mint (NM)
Minimal wear: slight edge wear or a few small scratches, with no major defects.
Lightly played (LP)
Minor edge or corner wear, scuffs or scratches. The card remains structurally sound.
Moderately played (MP)
Noticeable wear, including moderate whitening, scratching or small creases, without compromised integrity.
Heavily played (HP)
Substantial wear, whitening or creasing. The card must still be intact and identifiable.
Damaged (DMG)
Defects that compromise integrity, such as tears, splitting or significant liquid damage.

Details that matter

Foils use the same condition categories; inspect surface scratches and curling carefully. Disclose bends, creases, dents, ink, signatures, alterations, peeling, moisture and any suspected counterfeit. Photograph defects close up. Unsure is a request for inspection, not a condition guarantee.

For illustrated examples and detailed defect limits, see TCGplayer’s condition overview and imperfection guide.

Buying and selling

Shop images identify the printing and may not show the physical copy. If a purchase differs from its listed grade, follow our returns process. For cards you sell us, photos support an initial offer; we inspect the actual cards on arrival. We explain discrepancies and obtain your acceptance of any revised terms before settlement.
